A Tragic Day In Drag Racing
We are deeply sadden to report the passing of one of our “Brothers,” Tim Powell.
Best known in the racing arena as a competitor in super gas running 9.90s. Tim driving his 1963 Corvette was killed in a drag racing accident at Capitol Raceway on Saturday, June 9, 2007.
We had the pleasure of spending time with Tim on Saturday, sharing photos of his car taken at an earlier race and talking about his plans for the coming weeks. The last moment that we shared with Tim was in the staging lanes as we waited for the first round of eliminations to start when he stopped by our car with a smile on his face to wish us luck as he has done so many times in the past.
As we are told consistently by our parents that life is not promised and that it can be taken away in a blink of an eye, we still sometime take things for granted. So let's all take a positive message from Tim's life and always greet each other with a smile and treat each other with respect like Tim always did.
Tim will be GREATLY MISSED by all that knew him. Our condolences go out to the Powell family and the drag racing community. We would appreciate it if any of our readers would notify us if they get information concerning the funeral arrangements. We will post that information as we learn more.
